Can it be done? Can a light weight win an overall title? My goal in every show was to win my class and anything else is what I called "icing on the cake",,but that was the question I had as I was starting my diet for this show. I took 1997 as year to grow, get big, and strong. I knew that the Atlantics would be my next show and I needed to be harder than the NB show in 96 much harder so that there would be no question if and when I made it to the Overall. E=R, Effort=Results, if I do more, I will get more, that was my attitude from the get go, on day 1. of my plan I was full blast, none of this save some for tomorrow, 7 days a week that was my goal, training everyday. Monday Arms/Cardio, Tuesday Quads/Cardio/Abs. Wednesday Shoulders/Cardio Thursday Back/Cardio. Friday Hamstrings/Cardio/Abs. Saturday Cardio 60mins. Sunday Chest/Cardio,,that was it, robot mode was in full effect on this journey. I had a friend who loved bodybuilding but never knew how to do it and he had no hope of ever building his body to what he dreamed of, he was at least 100lbs over weight, I gave him hope not to compete but to build his health back to where it should be, I told him his health would take care of his weight and that was his focus, the deal was be at my door everyday 530am and I will train you ,,the deal was made and so was the friendship, I had lots of time and that was good because I had lots of work to do, and time went on and day in and day out training and training pushing my guts out making sure that I was doing as much as I could in the gym leaving no thought of I should of trained harder or did more reps, I was sure that I was training harder then everyone else and my new training partner was melting before my eyes,, he lost 60 pounds of fat in total and was in the best shape of his life, for me I was at a level that I have never seen before, harder, bigger and ready for battle,,when I showed up at the weigh in I noticed that everyone was looking at me as I walked up to the table to get weighed in, I knew that there was a few that knew of me but I had no idea that I was set as the guy to beat in this show,,I felt very proud of the winnings that I had and what that gave me was respect with all the other competitors,,,,show time,,I weighed in at 154lbs, 4 pounds heavier then the last show and at least 10 pounds dryer,,my class this year was huge,,there was good caliber in my class but again back stage I could tell that I had them on size and definition,,and I was already thinking of the overall, and what will take place, where I always find a spot back stage and focus I couldn't tell what everyone else was looking like and that was playing on my mind,,then from the speakers out back "gentle men start pumping up for the overall" ,,shirts off lets go!! like I was getting ready for a fight or something, lol all these guys were good, some better then others but all winners of the night, I could tell this was not going to be as easy as taking my class, some of these guys were as dry as me and lots more muscle and now it came down to the judges, the judges called out the mandatory poses and then they moved us around in different positions, they were moving everyone else around me so I could tell that I was in the running for the win,, Pose down! there we were all of us going at it with the music blasting and the crowd screaming, it seemed like forever before we stopped posing,,then music went down and a hush came over the crowd,,and then they said it "The New Mr. Atlantic Canada is,,,, Saint Johns Mike Griffin!! The Ultimate Ending for the ultimate journey!!
